Returning to Auckland for some wine

Diary

Having spent time looking at the mountains we decided that we should try going up some. We weren't energetic enough to try it on foot, but drove up the road to Cardrona on the highest sealed road in New Zealand. At this time of the year the snow had largely gone and the ski slopes were closed, but we did find some for Beefy to play in.

On our return to Auckland some of the cruise ships were moored up bringing even more people into the city for the Rugby.

We had booked a wine tasting tour on Waiheke Island as part of our trip and we visited three wineries as well as a boutique olive oil pressing company. Tasting at least 3 wines at each of the vineyards as well as sampling a number of German style beers and a ginger beer left us both a little merry and ready for the event laid on by the England Rugby Travel team for us all at the hotel that evening. While free food and drink flowed, we were entertained by ITV's presenter Nick Mullins, ex All Black 'Buck' Shelton and ex-England scrum-half Andy Gomersall. This provided some lively debate and not a little laughter as Buck tried to teach some up-tight English how to perform the Haka just like an All Black!
