Recovering in Queenstown

Diary

After the excitement of the games we went off to Queenstown for a few days to recover our composure before the quarter finals.
Queenstown, on the South Island, is the adventure capital where jet boat rides and bungee jumping were invented - we weren't tempted, but as we couldn't get a suitable motorbike anywhere we rented a 4x4 to explore some of the more 'scenic' areas.

The Skyline Gondola to Bob's Peak above the town gave a fantastic view over Queenstown bay, Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables mountain range and the Cecil and Walter Peaks.

Arrowtown is an old gold mining town with an historic main street featuring many tourist stores and expensive boutiques. The Arrow river, just beside the township, was pretty, but Beefy was disappointed not to find any gold lying around.
